Newest Tattoo Addition, Phase #1

I wanted to apologize for my lack of creativity and inspiration lately.

My rough week was quickly turned around after a visit to my tattoo artist yesterday.  I realized after spending around 6 hours there that I really needed to get out of my own head and just chat with people I don't normally talk to.

Yes, tattoo artists and other tattoo enthusiasts, I'm one of those tattoo collectors that talks to keep her mind off the pain.  I like to think my artist doesn't mind, but maybe I make him want to jump out the window.

Regardless, he did an amazing job with the first iteration of my matryoshka tattoo design that I first debuted in this post.

Here is phase #1, outline and some shading:

Sorry that you have to see my pasty and sunburned thigh.

I go back on August 13 to fill in the coloring, and I'll probably have another session to touch everything up and tighten up the whole design.

I'm madly in love with it, of course.  And one great thing about it in relation to my last tattoo--the half-sleeve--the "incomplete" version of this one looks pretty badass.  The half-sleeve, because it didn't have any strict lines, looked more like a series of brown and grey blemishes and burns after the first run.

I've decided that this'll be the last one for awhile (for reals this time) because I don't want to get all my tattoos before 30.  This last year I got three big ones and it's time to sit it out for awhile.

What have you done this weekend?

  1. Listen, you. All you do is make me long for the days I throw my own body into the land of ink and needle. I love the artwork though :)

  2. It's turning out so nicely already!! It sucks that you have to wait a whole month while it heals and stuff, but luckily it already looks so great, I'm sure time will fly by!! I'm not sure if I just missed the post, but are you getting the tat for any particular reason or just because you really like the design?? :)

  6. I love it, I can't wait to see it done in colors. I always just assumed everyone talked to get through the pain, but now that I think about it, I guess there are a lot of people sitting there silently. I'm not sure what they think about to keep themselves still during all that time, though!

  8. i talk constantly when i'm about to experience pain or when i am currently experiencing it. you should see me try to start up a non-stop conversation with a bitchy nurse just to have some sort of distraction before she draws my blood...

"so, uh, those are nice scrubs. do you like hospitals? i bet your shoes are very comfortable and they look non-skid. what did you eat for lunch today?"

  10. phase one looks pretty good so far, now i'm curious to see what the finished tattoo will look like! i seriously want another one, but i know it'll be expensive, so unfortunately i'm going to have to be an adult and pay bills and wait on the new art.
