YES. IT HAPPENED.
On Wednesday Megan and I checked out our first apartment at around 7:45. The neighborhood was iffy and when we spoke to the tenant, he said something like, "Our mountain bikes were stolen from the yard and there are heroin needles on the roof." I was a little afraid that it had set the tone for our future visits.
As we were chilling out in Starbucks I rediscovered a place that I had sort of looked at on and off for weeks. I called them and we went up immediately.
And you guys...it was AWESOME.
It's a casita (Spanish for "little house," if you took French in high school), meaning it has one bedroom and one bath. I was always looking at bigger places (2- and 3-bedroom) and had hardly even looked at 1-bedrooms, so I am feeling so glad I didn't pass over this one. The house was built by a Mainer, has wide wooden floors, a little kitchenette, built-in bookshelves and a jacuzzi tub. Plus it has an amazing view, access to trails, and sits right at the foot of a mountain. Though it's a little smaller than we previously had planned, it just fit. Luckily the landlords agreed and we got the place!
I made this little video walkthrough for Robbie that I thought you'd enjoy. Sadly I didn't think of recording horizontally so it's pretty tiny; for that I apologize. But you'll enjoy it, I'm sure.
Note: It's a mess because the kitchen is being renovated and there are still some furnishings that we will not personally have.
So as you can see, our kitchen will be very wee and we will have minimal storage space. Does anyone have any advice for maximizing space?
Awesome! The yard and floors are gorgeous! I think it'll be a cozy little space for you both for sure:)
ReplyDeleteThe place looks incredible! Congrats, lady! The view is incredible! Check out IKEA for storage space ideas. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat? You don't wont that sex painting? I left it just for you!
ReplyDeleteI love all the different textures. And that view is fabulous!
Ooh, ooh, pick me! I have LOTS of advice for maximizing space!
ReplyDeleteI am on the slowest computer in the world right now, and it actually shut itself down when I tried to play that video, but I'm super excited to check it out tomorrow and give you said advice based on my viewing then! =D
It looks awesome. Congrats on finding it! :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! It looks really nice, but I'm not sure why you don't want to keep that amazing painting above the bed, haha!
ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing! I can see you guys being SO happy there.
ReplyDeleteThat view is absolutely killer, too. I'm pretty jealous, actually! YAY for you guys! <3
If you can't fit all your stuff in that place, you need to get ride of stuff! Haha. =P My husband and I live in a house way smaller with our dog, and my husband has a very space consuming hobby: bike riding. At any given time we have 3 or 4 huge mountain bikes in our house!
ReplyDeleteI love your new house, though! It's SO cute! I'm glad you found what you wanted!!!
Congratulations!!!
ReplyDeleteOur place is really short on storage, too - we have bookcases EVERYWHERE.
Oh, it looks lovely. Enjoy :)
ReplyDeleteIt's a gorgeous little place! I'm totally jealous of your backyard though. Lovely view! Congratulations on the new house! :D
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!! Such a cute house! It has amazing potential, and the front door is soooo coooool. I can't wait until I have a house of my own...
ReplyDeleteHi Caitlin, this is my first time visiting your blog. Congrats on the new house!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteCONGRATULATIONS!
ReplyDeleteAs someone who recently moved, i totally understand your sense of relief!
LOVE IT!!! I'm so excited for you guys.
ReplyDeletehmmm...storage space in kitchen. is there room anywhere for a small cart? our first house was pretty small and we didn't have any kitchen storage. i bought a small cart like stand from ikea and used the bottom for storage and there was a drawer as well.
can't wait to see more!
Is it weird that I LOVE the blue rocking chair in the back yard?? Also, I have that same fridge :)
ReplyDeleteCute house!
Aww...it's so quaint & adorable! I ended up taking a small house when I found my house in Florida...only 780 square feet, which was smaller than any apartment I ever had, but it's laid out so perfect it seems huge. At least you have that gorgeous view...I just have a palm tree in the yard...hardly compares to a mountain view! So happy your trip was a success!!
ReplyDeleteYOU HAVE A NEW HOUSE! How long are you staying in Santa Fe for again? It's a little small, but I don't think that's a bad thing at all, it's really cute! It's not like you guys need TONS of space, you'll be able to make that place work really well for you guys. So excited for you!! :D
ReplyDeleteIt's so sweet!!! LOVE IT Yay for new places! x
ReplyDeleteCongratulation on the new place! I'm so glad for you :)
ReplyDeleteLove it! That view is amazing! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteOMG it's so beautiful and cozy! You could probably put your towels in the drawer or trunk. We have a linen closet but keep our towels in a dresser and linens in tubs in spare closet. We also store various things (cleaners, toiletries, etc.) in over the door shoe racks.
ReplyDeleteIt's really nice, congratulations! I'm currently unfollowing a bunch of boring cookie cutter fashiony blogs because their crap cluttered my feed and I didn't get to comment on this immediately. It made me SO ANGRY.
