What I'm (Honestly) Wearing & Other Bits and Pieces

Happy Friday, all!

First, the outfit. I realized that these honest outfit posts are more "me" than the "dress-up-and-be-cute-time" outfit posts.  This time, I wore a shirt I bought at Old Navy forever ago, some bootcut jeans from NY&Co, and zero makeup.  I bet you're sad about the fact that I didn't wear the awesome sweatshirt that I found in a bag of clothing my sister was planning on giving to Goodwill.

The actual taking of pictures is about the same level of awkwardness no matter what I wear.  For example, this is what it looks like when you try to take an over-the-top winking face but as soon as you camera flashes you realize that there's something in your winking eye:

In a word, awkward.

So I tried about 7000 other poses which made my head look photoshopped on, so I resorted to an old standard:

And sorry, no vertical shots because my external flash no longer rotates.  I'm just a mess today, what can I say.

Now, the bits and pieces.

1. Rob and I decided to try a new vegetarian recipe.  In the last year or so Rob has given up red meat due to animal cruelty concerns, so typically we eat chicken for every meal.  We decided on something different and meat-less, and I found this recipe for penne Tuscana with spinach on AllRecipes.com.  It was positively delectable, so I highly recommend it.

2. Rob decided that he wanted to try out contacts.  What's funny about this is that I haven't seen him without glasses on full-time since we were in high school together and it's been really weirding me out, how young he looks.  It's also funny because he hasn't really gotten the hang of contacts yet.  We spent about 20 minutes trying to get them out of his eyes amidst quite a bit of eye-pain and expletives.
Look how cute he is:

3. Rob and I have been having some serious discussions about our future, now that he's well into his last year of college.  I think we've come to some agreements and have made some plans, but really we can't decide anything until we get closer to his graduation.  I don't deal well with ambiguity and feelings of helplessness so this has been a learning process for me.  I do have to say, however, that I can't express how fortunate I feel to be able to plan my life and my future with such an amazing human being.

4. I had a really rough day earlier this week.  My therapist and I have been working on my propensity to emotionally diconnect when I get upset, so in an attempt to ground myself I took the dog for a long walk.  It was nice to hear nothing but my own footsteps and the dog sniffing various things, and it definitely helped me refocus my energy.  This was a sight I came across just as the sun was preparing to set.  Sadly I only had my cell phone so this picture is a bit lacking quality, but I still feel at peace when I look at it.

5. I've been doing Pilates with some friends every Thursday and I'm loving it.  It's easy to forget how much better I feel about myself when I take care of my body physically, but I'm really going to try to keep up with it.  Our gym also offers Piloxing (Pilates + kick-boxing) and I'm thinking of trying it out.

6. I'm getting used to the idea of heading off to Arizona for a month.  I've made a lot of plans and have sort of steeled myself mentally, but I think it's going to be pretty difficult to say goodbye to Robbie and my beast.  We're always better together and without him I feel a little...incomplete.  I am excited, however, to share all of my experience with you lovely people!

I hope you had a great week, and have an amazing weekend!

  1. I love your outfit posts, your honesty and your beautiful spirit. I love the photo from your walk, I had a soul searching walk myself this week. It will be hard to be away from Rob, but I think this trip will be good for you. When Shawn started traveling for walk, I discovered a new part of myself and a new love and appreciation for him. It will be a growing experience for you both and that is always exciting, if not a little scary!! Have a great weekend!!

  2. That pasta looks DELICIOUS. I also feel your husbands' pain about contacts. I started wearing them in... January? I only wear them a couple times a month because I hate how I look without them, but it took me a while to get the hang out of it. Honestly, it wasn't until I was on a beach every day in Greece that I TRULY called myself a contact-wearer. Now I can put them in and take them out without even looking (I did it enough amidst sand and ocean).

I'm also so excited for you and your trip to Arizona! Pack me along! I want to go on a new adventure. :)

  3. well, i like your outfit, and it's probably because it looks just like the sort of thing i wear! and so i can feel a little bit like a woman (since my chest is too flat to fill out any shirt) i wear a necklace! haha!

also, isn't it weird seeing your spouse with a different look? chris has had a beard for YEARS, but a couple months ago he decided he was going to start shaving. i STILL can't get used to seeing him like that!

    have fun in AZ!

  4. Great outfit, your pictures are always so cute, even if you think they're awkward! Just embrace the awkwardness :)

That food looks yummy! And the picture is peaceful and not bad for a phone pic. It's fun to think about the future and getting things settled down, and I hope you can figure out exactly what to do soon!

Hope you have a great weekend!

  5. That pasta looks fantastic!!! As for being away from the boy and the beast, it will be hard at first but you'll quickly discover it's a good thing for both of you! You'll have a new found appreciation for him when you get back and discover some good and some bad things about yourself while you're apart. So you should be super excited for this great learning time ahead of you!!

    A Sweet Release

  7. And I'm excited to meet you! My husband and I were talking about how we'd be bummed out to have to be a part in a new place for a whole month so we definitely want to make sure you aren't lonely!
He then said "Just make sure it's really a girl before you go meet her, not some creepy pervert guy."
I replied that you put up girlish photos of yourself all the time and replied
"You never know. There's a lot of weirdos out there."
    =P

  12. Your poses for outfit posts crack me up! Please, never stop it :) That recipe looks great! Thank you so much for sharing. I have been saying I'd like to do meatless Mondays, and my Hubs is not so on board with them. We rarely eat red meat - and mostly do chicken as well. I am going to be trying this recipe out :D Maybe we will kick off this week with our first meatless Monday!

  15. hey hottie ; ) ; )

sooo remember a long while back when I asked you what you did for exercise? I always meant to get back to you on that... I was just going to suggest that maybe you try out some sort of sport to make it more fun, and Piloxing sounds awesome!! Sports also help you focus on what your body can accomplish, rather than long-term/more abstract goals. Sounds like you're having fun already w/ the Pilates : )
(& I hope the unsolicited advice is okay...)
